Nom Nom Watermelon Nails!
Here’s my cheat sheet for the watermelon look I’ll be teaching at Urban Outfitters in New York City today. Hope to see you there! If not, you can follow along on the intertubes. You know I gotcha back, gurl (from another part of the world).
Step 1: Apply base coat and two coats of “Pardon My French” pink.
Step 2: Paint a layer of polish onto a corner of a soft make up sponge. Then, dab on the neon pink polish from the cuticle to just shy of 2/3rds up your nail. Then, from the tip down about 1/4 of the way, dab on the white polish. Be sure to leave a little strip of light pink peaking out!
*Note: You don’t want it to be gloopy on the sponge, it’s better to play conservative here and get a very thin layer on the nail that you can keep adding to then too much wet polish.
Step 3: Using “Happy Hunter” apply a thick French tip.
Step 4: With the neon green striper, line the edge of the French tip so it stands out a little, thin and bright on the white. Then add a few random, short lines to the dark green to look like a rind.
Step 5: Paint where you want to apply studs with top coat or a nail art sealer on the nail. Then, paint the tip of an orange stick with a thin coat of top coat. Next, pick up a stud with your orange stick and place it in the desired spot on your nail. Continue studding them up ‘til your satisfied. Then, seal the studs again with the nail art sealer.
*Note: You can substitute the studs for a black nail art striper. Simply paint on the seeds by pressing the brush tip down gently.
Step 6: Apply top coat. And then, try very hard to resist the urge to bite your delicious looking nails!
